An Attractive Idea

• Radar data on an unprecedented scale is now widely available.
• Measured and forecast soundings are widely available.
• Computers are fast, large (lots of memory, lots of disk space), and cheap.
• Why not run cloud-scale models locally to explicitly forecast thunderstorms in the local area?
