SREF Case Status

Workshop

A workshop on Short-Range Ensemble Forecasting (SREF) was held at the National Meteorological Center in Camp Springs, Maryland, 25-27 July 1994. The sponsors of the workshop were the
National Severe Storms Laboratory and the National Meteorological Center. There were about 50 attendees, including representatives of 7 national numerical weather prediction centers. Here's the agenda.

A report from the workshop appeared in the September 1995 issue of the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society.

For more discussion on SREF, see the Brooks and Doswell Weather article and links from the home page of Harold Brooks.

Anonymous FTP

Anonymous FTP is now available for SREF cases and for the xgribview software (in the
xgribview subdirectory). The cases are listed by date. We'll provide more information as time goes on, but for now, caveat emptor, and take a look at E-mail Danny Mitchell if you have problems.

Plans for Data Archival

Data from the ensemble will be archived at NSSL and (we hope) NCAR. It will be in GRIB format. Dave Stensrud and Danny Mitchell, our programmer, have been working on the logistics. Danny has written a package to read the grib files and contour fields. It's for x-windows and will be available with the data sets.
Anonymous FTP is the preferred method of transfer and it should be linked via WWW. For those people with slow links, particularly outside of North America, we'll try to arrange a tape exchange system. More details will follow.
