Operational Meteorology in the Future

Scientists at the National Severe Storms Laboratory are involved in research to address the future needs and directions of operational meteorology. Research into the applicability and practical uses of numerical weather prediction (NWP) models, the use of new techniques for forecasting, and the development of methods to assist in warning for hazardous weather are all important aspects of this work. Since many of the staff members have experience in operations, in experimental forecasting, and in collaborative research with operational forecasters, NSSL represents a unique interface between the research and operations community. Here, we provide links to much of NSSL scientists' work and thoughts relating to operational forecasting in the 21st Century.
