NSSL SWAT Case Study - 2 June 1995 Texas Panhandle

A supercell outbreak occurred in the Texas Panhandle on this day with several violent tornadoes. NSSL's Verification of the Origins of Rotation in Tornadoes EXperiment (VORTEX) had their best data collection on one of the violent tornadoes of the day near Dimmitt, Texas. Here is a summary of VORTEX operations for this day.

Presented here are various WSR-88D radar images from the Lubbock, TX radar (KLBB) during the time that the Doppler On Wheels (DOW) mobile Doppler weather radar was collecting data. The WSR-88D images and DOW images are during the time a large F4 tornado was on the ground just southeast of Dimmitt, Texas. On each of the WSR-88D images, there is output from NSSL's Mesocyclone Detection Algorithm (MDA). The red-in-yellow circle depicts the mesocyclone detection location. Look for Meso ID #687 on each WSR-88D image.
