Arrived on site – leveled truck, booted computer – all OK

1701

Began data collection- very light cloud echoes visible to the N of the basin and also some more substantial echoes (35 dBZ) to the S-SE of the burn area.  Forecast calls for widespread rainfall beginning around 2000 UTC with the possibility of > 2Ó of rain.  Flash flood watches have been issued for the 2005 and 2006 burn areas to the W of here.  Forecast discussion indicates watches may be warranted for this region later in the afternoon.

1753

No precipitating echoes over basin.  After talking with Dave and reading latest forecast discussion have decided to stop data collection until later this afternoon.  Will monitor KVTX from hotel room and return when more substantial echoes move in.

0105

Came back on site.  Ran one volume scan without releveling or resetting clock to determine if data collection needs to commence.    Only very weak echoes (< 10 dBZ) are evident over basin.  Have decided to shut radar down again and check it in an hour or so.

0226

Started up radar againÉnot properly leveled yet and time is not correct.  IŐll fine-tune these when I see some legitimate echoes.  No precipitating echoes over basin yet.  Some very light echoes (10 dBZ) visible to the S, but thatŐs it.  Will shut down radar again and wait.

0551

Data acquisition has begun.  Radar is leveled and time is set properly.  35 dBZ echoes now visible in a circular region around radar over burn area.  Radius of circle decreases with elevation angle suggesting a horizontally homogeneous cloud layer.  Virga is suspected and was visually observed a few hours ago.  No precipitation is reaching the ground yet.

0603

Light precipitation has just begun at radar site.

0642

No rain at radar site.  Large region of 35-40 dBZ echoes persist to the NW of radar, N of the burn area.  Scattered 30-35 dBZ echoes over burn area.  May still be virga.

0722

Moderate rain falling.  40-45 dBZ echoes in E portion of basin.  Melting layer evident at 12.5 deg elevation.

0738

Rain has stopped.  No echoes over burn area.  Clear skies overhead.

0942

Region remains free of precipitating echoes.

1018

30-35 dBZ echoes over center of basin.  Very light rain at radar site.

1047

40 dBZ echoes in E half of basin.  Moderate rain at radar site.

1139

Releveled radar and will leave unattended for a few hours.

1948

Stopped data acquisition.  Believe event ended around 1400 UTCÉbased on file sizes.
