[Slide shows four different fields: Radar Reflectivity (dBZ), Differential Reflectivity (dB), Specific Differential Phase (degrees/km), and Cross-Correlation Coefficient]
Notes:
Elevation is 4.5 deg. Aug 28, 2004, convection. Contrast
the conventional reflectivity measurement which has much structure corresponding
to sizes and amounts of precipitation. The cross correlation coefficient
exhibits a symmetric ring at about 50 km, that is where the beam enters the
melting zone – and this variable clearly indicates melting.
