Introduction for Dr Joe Golden
- Originally from California, Dr Golden has over 40 years of Federal Service in NOAA
- He received his Ph.D. Meteorology in 1973 from Florida State University
- He started his career as a Hurricane Specialist at the National Hurricane Center in Miami
- His research interests in Convective Vortices brought him to NSSL in the early 1970’s
- In 1984, he went back to NWS as the Chief of the Sounding Systems Branch where he managed the entire NWS rawinsonde and radar networks
- While at NWS, he played a significant early role in both the AWIPS & NEXRAD Project
- In 1991, he came back to OAR as Dir of the NOAA Atmospheric Modification Program
- In 2000, Dr Golden moved to Boulder, CO where He is Currently a Senior Meteorologist at the Forecast Systems Lab
- He is a AMS Fellow and a member of the AGU
- Dr Golden is recognized as an International expert on Tornadoes and Waterspouts
- He has authored over nearly 50 formal publications
