First Dual Doppler Observations of a Tornadic Storm 24 April 1974

[Image shows a vertical cross-section of reflectivity contours and storm motion vectors in the thunderstorm as captured by the two Doppler radars.]

Notes:
This is not data from the first storm, but a storm on 2 May 1979 to show the power of two Doppler radars to map the updrafts and circulations in severe thunderstorms. Distances are from Roman Nose State Park radar. Note strong updraft with speeds of about 35 m s-1 (70 miles per hour), divergence at storm top.
