Project Rough Rider (Jean Lee, c.a.1960s-80s)

• FAA supported research to relate radar measurements to aviation hazards (e.g., hail, turbulence, etc.)
• This research lead to FAA advisories to the aviation industry for avoidance of thunderstorm hazards to safe flight

Notes:
This was one of the earliest practical applications of weather radar research at NSSL. The early work utilized the WSR-57 data, and then the Doppler data.
