Loop of the Nexrad KDDC radar from 7/21/96 23:34 UTC to 7/22/96 00:26 UTC. By 0000 UTC the surface front is located directly on top of DDC. In actuality, the front was located 20 km north of DDC until 2218 UTC when convection first formed north of DDC. This early convection laid out the initial outflow region which would eventually grow to cover large portions of two states a few hours later. The outflow region pushes the surface front southward until it is on top of DDC at 0000 UTC. The surface front extends southeastward from DDC to just west of P28 and into Oklahoma northeast of Alva.
A closer look at the boundary across DDC can be found here. A loop showing the start of convection north of DDC is provided here. ![]()
