19th Conference on Severe Local Storms, September 1998, Minneapolis, Minnesota

The 19th Conference on Severe Local Storms sponsored by the the American Meteorological Society will be held 14-18 September 1998, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Papers are solicited on all aspects of severe thunderstorms. In particular, papers are solicited on themes associated with the new AMS Monograph on Severe Storms. Invited presentations of the review chapters from the Monograph will be made at the Conference. Topics include: 1) synoptic and mesoscale processs associated with convection; 2) severe thunderstorm phenomena (tornadoes, hail, high winds, heavy precipitation); 3) forecasting of severe thunderstorms; 4) numerical modelling of severe thunderstorms; and 4) electrification of severe storms. Papers on other topics are unlikely to be accepted. A panel discussion on the topic "Communicating Information About Hazardous Weather" is planned.

Abstracts must be submitted by 16 March 1998. Please include at the top of the abstract the author's name, affiliation, complete mailing address, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail address of the authors. Papers will be accepted on the basis of an abstract of no more than 500 words. Space for oral presentations will be extremely limited. Most presentations will be made in the form of posters.

In keeping with past tradition, evening severe weather slide and video sessions will be held. Send requests for 10-minute presentations of slide and video material related to the conference themes should be made to the program committee.

AMS will provide instructions to authors of accepted abstracts. Complete, camera-ready manuscripts (page length to be determined at a later date), including photos and diagrams, must be submitted not later than 15 June 1998 to AMS Headquarters. Page charges and any additional charges for photo processing will be assessed to defray printing charges. Registrants will receive a preprint volume at the conference.
