The purpose of this seminar is primarily to present information about graduate degree requirements (both MS and Ph.D.) from the standpoint of the Graduate College as well as the School of Meteorology. Topics to be covered by Don Rogers (our representative in the Grad College) will be Graduate College deadlines, funding opportunities, and requirements for committee members (presence at seminars, defenses, etc.). Dr. Brian Fiedler, Graduate Liaison for the SoM, will cover points such as SoM deadlines, management of the graduate program within the SoM (roles of the Graduate Liaison and Graduate Studies Committee), activities and composition of MS and Ph.D. committees, responsibilities of main advisors and faculty members on committees, annual graduate reports, representation of the graduate program on the SoM web site, and addressing problems and concerns that students might have. Dr. Phillip Chilson, the current chair of SoM’s Graduate Studies Committee, along with Dr. Fred Carr, Director of SoM, will provide information concerning the status of the graduate program revision and will be available for discussions with participants. Celia Jones will present general reminders regarding Graduate Faculty membership for graduate student committees, participation in the Visiting Student Weekend and Career Fairs, and other information.
