The RUC 0C level and the bright band are used to determine precipitation flags (see Mosaic Derived 3D). Figure 26 (at right) shows the main tab image of BB_top. The top and bottom heights of bright band layer are identified from the vertical profile of reflectivity (if exists) at each radar site and then objectively analyzed onto the NMQ grid using the RUC 0C height as the background
Bright band algorithm products:
- BB_TOP - 2-D analysis of bright band top heights derived from single radar vertical profiles of reflectivity
- BB_BOTTOM - 2-D analysis of bright band bottom heights derived from single radar vertical profiles of reflectivity
- HSB - hybrid scan blockage; indicates percentage of the radar beam that is blocked
