As part of SALLJEX studies on western-central South America, a large raingauge network was installed in order to measure the amount and variability of rainfall on this area. The network was installed covering an area that included the following countries: Perú, Bolivia, Argentina and Paraguay. Part of the network was installed on the lowlands, where the effects of the Low Level Jet are direct.
However, part of it was also installed on the Altiplano in order to understand the relationship between the Low Level Jet variability and rainfall variability on the Andes.
The main focus of the Altiplano network was on the Lake Titicaca area and on the Salar de Uyuni area, to get a solid understanding of the effects of the atmospheric circulations induced by these features on the rainfall amounts and patterns on the region.
