On this page you can find plots of observations collected by the NOAA P-3 research aircraft during the SALLJEX. The data used to make these plots have not been quality controlled and the temperature and dewpoint data in particular are not accurate. They are shown ONLY to give an indication of the differences along the flight track. These plots will be re-done when the final data becomes available in several months time. In the table below, you can find every flight (rows) during the SALLJEX. Nevertheless, one flight is not shown (January 11) because quick look data was not recorded on this flight (it will be available later).

 

The maps of the flight track (Column 2) include the trajectory of the aircraft indicated by a continuous line. The black numbers along the track indicate the time (hh:00 minutes) giving an idea of the flight direction. Blue numbers indicate the average position of the vertical sounding given in the column 5.

 

In the columns 3a to 3e are the plots of the average temperature and dew point as well as wind barbs; the average of these basic variables was performed over a 10mb-thick layer centered around each pressure level. Although the experiment was held in the southern hemisphere, wind barbs are plotted with the northern hemisphere convention.

 

Column 4 contains a time-height plot of the track followed by the aircraft. Some profiles are shown in the column 5. The matrix of plots in these figures is organized by sounding (rows) and by variables (columns), like: Ta and Td, Wind Magnitude and Potential Temperature, from the left to the right. Units are specified in every plot.

 

Finally, column 6 has some basic comments like the features observed and also some additional plots in different regions with a particular interest.
