Mission Number: 030204I
Type of Mission: low-level jet
Start time of Mission(UTC): 2003/02/04 10:54
End time of Mission(UTC): 2003/02/04 18:41
This mission was designed to describe a low-level jet over western Paraguay and southern Bolivia; much of the jet lay in northern Argentina. The early takeoff minimized PBL turbulence and low-cloud formation and the morning jet showed winds just over 50 kts at about 860 mb. After the original "z" pattern was flown the aircraft flew constant-level legs close to the foothills south of Santa Cruz (at 5K ft) looking at small-spatial scale variability of the winds close to topography. Then the aircraft proceeded to a point just north of Santa Cruz to sample several convective cells with the tail radar. The aircraft then returned to Santa Cruz.
