NSSL Radar Research Featured in State Newspaper

Radar research conducted by the NOAA National Severe Storms Laboratory for more than 40 years was featured in a special section of the Daily Oklahoman recently. In a special section on health and technology, the state's largest newspaper featured an interview with Doug Forsyth, NSSL's Radar Research and Development Division Chief. Forsyth's photo was also featured on the section's cover.

The story highlights NSSL's history of radar research in Norman, as well as current projects -- dual polarization and phased array radar. Dual polarization radar will allow forecasters to better predict types and amounts of precipitation and will be added to current NEXRAD technology by the end of the decade.

Phased array radar features electronically-controlled beams, allowing forecasters to gather more information about severe and hazardous weather more quickly.
