NSSL Begins Move to National Weather Center
Movers are loading library books onto rolling shelves and stacking boxes in their truck as the National Severe Storms Lab's move to the National Weather Center begins.
IT and the library are the first groups to officially transition to their new spaces in the 244,000-square-foot building on the University of Oklahoma campus. Other NSSL groups will move throughout July and August.
NOAA units will occupy 51 percent of the building. These are the Storm Prediction Center, National Weather Service Norman Forecast Office, Warning Decision Training Branch and the Applications Branch of the Radar Operations Center.
Other tenants will be the OU College of Geographic and Atmospheric Sciences and School of Meteorology, Oklahoma Climatological Survey and OU-based research units.
Construction began on the $69.5 million building in early 2003. An official grand opening will be held in the fall.
