National Weather Festival Highlights Weather Community

The NOAA Weather Partners in Norman, including the National Severe Storms Laboratory, joined with the Norman Chamber of Commerce Weather Committee to host the National Weather Festival Saturday. More than 1,000 people attended the free public event, which featured tours, displays by local weather organizations, children's activities and hourly weather balloon launches.

The NOAA Weather Partners include NSSL, Storm Prediction Center, National Weather Service Norman Forecast Office, Radar Operations Center and Warning Decision Training Branch.

People attended from as far away as Dallas, Texas, a three-hour drive. The event especially attracted families with children.

Beautiful weather provided a perfect setting for numerous activities and ultimately a very successful event.

Although it was the first year to combine a NOAA open house with other weather organizations in the community, it also marked the last time NOAA will host a public event at their current facility. By next year they will be located in the new National Weather Center.
