Calculating Percentages

Page 1 | Page 2 | Page 3

Percentage by Month

For fun, I also looked at the tornadoes by month to see how well it would match up with the Annual Cycle for tornadoes in the NOAA National Severe Storms Lab's Severe Thunderstorm Climatology pages. To get a graph for Cleveland County, click on "Tornado" and click in central Oklahoma. You'll be close. This is what I got:

Graph of tornado annual cycle for central Oklahoma.

And a table of the counts from the Tornado Project dataset:

Tornadoes by month for Cleveland County Oklahoma
Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec
0 2 7 10 12 2 1 3 3 1 3 0

Interestingly, my very small dataset shows October being smaller than it should be and May doesn't stand out as much as it should. It would be interesting to add adjacent counties and see if the distribution more closely matches the graph, derived from data that has been statistically-smoothed.
