WHAT IS CSI?

A short web lecture on CSI, the way it is traditionally taught, can be found at Chuck Doswell's CSI Physical Discussion page.

Conditional symmetric instability is a type of moist symmetric instability (potential symmetric instability is another type). Moist symmetric instability is contrasted with moist gravitational instability (also known as moist buoyant instability).

The release of moist symmetric instability results in moist slantwise convection, much as the release of moist gravitational instability results in moist gravitational convection.

If you've read our paper and want to learn more about CSI, we have compiled what we think are the best published references on CSI and slantwise convection. May we recommend. . . .
