Norman Doppler Radar comes down

A s After 30 years of service the Norman Doppler Radar was dismantled. Researchers used the radar from 1971 to 1992 to conduct severe weather research and to create NEXRAD. A new phased array radar will begin to be built in its place this summer.

A celebration was held on April 12, 2002 to honor the work and the people who were a part of the research connected with the radar.

The radar dome is suspended by a crane as it clears the radar building base.
