Introduction for Dr Lou Wicker
- Originally from Rochester, NY, our next speaker received his Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences from Univ of Illinois in 1990
- He began his career as a Visiting Scientist at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications
- He moved to Texas A&M in 1992 where he received tenure as an Associate Professor in Meteorology
- Dr Wicker Joined NSSL in 1999 and is currently working as a Research Meteorologist
- He has made significant contributions in the development of computer simulations of both severe storms and tornadoes
- Some of Dr Wicker’s simulations were used in an IMAX movie,
- Lou is mostly recognized for his featured appearance in the 1986 program NOVA, then again in the recent 2004 NOVA special.
- He was a PI for the VORTEX field program and helped build the two C-Band mobile SMART-R radars used to obtain high-resolution measurements within storms
- Lou has numerous publications, including one that received the 2003 OAR Outstanding Paper Award
