Introduction for Dr Dick Doviak
- Originally from New Jersey, Dr Doviak received his Ph.D. EE in 1963 from the University of Pennsylvania
- In the late 1960’s, he was part of a team that gave first evidence of the quasi-continuous spatial distribution of clear air reflectivity throughout the troposphere
- He Joined NSSL in 1971 & became Chief of the Doppler Radar Project that led to NEXRAD
- He is Currently working as a Senior NSSL Scientist within the Doppler Radar and Remote Sensing Research group
- He Served as an Editor for IEEE & an Associate Editor to AMS on several AMS journals
- Dr Doviak has served as a consultant to a number of companies and been an invited speaker to Countries all over the World
- He is an IEEE Fellow, and AMS Fellow
- He co-authored THE book Doppler Radar and Weather Observations with Dr. Zrnic
- He has won several Awards, including recipient of the IEEE 1988 Harry Diamond Memorial Award & he was a co-recipient of NASA’s group Achievement Award for the 1981 Doppler Lidar Flight Experiment
